no service by SFR

I am an Indian Scientist and a professor and am presently at CERN, Geneva Switzerland as Scientific Associate. This is a position which is offered by CERN to leading scientists of the world. I am living in Saint Genis Pouilly France. I signed a contract with SFR franchise at Val Thoiry to provide high speed internet at my home. Thrice they made an appointment to set up the connection and never turned up. Its now going to be a month and they have deducted the money from my account and there is no connection. I believe this has to do with the fact that I dont speak French and the color of my skin is not white. I had heard that French people are free thinkers and is famous for its liberal policy. My country is much backward than France but this will not happen in France. about 10 years back I took a sabbatical in Germany. I did not know their language and I know they are very passionate with their language but this never happened to me.

Can someone do anything. I read on the internet that SFR regularly does it with customers. Is there any consumer protection law in a liberal nation like France.

Hello, I do not think that your problem is due to the color of your skin or to the fact that you do not speak French. SFR is not a serious operator. My mom had many problems with SFR. price increase without any notice, now that she want to stop the contract with them she has to pay euro 45 for that... incredible no?
